Palace of Culture and Science

The Palace of Culture and Science is the tallest building in Warsaw and the second tallest in Poland. it is a controversial building as many people regards it as the main symbol of communism and for this reason it is not liked by many citizens. The Palace was a gift from the Soviet Union to the people of Poland and was built in 1955. The architecture of the building is closely related to several similar skyscrapers built in the Soviet Union in the same era.


The Palace has always been a very lively place. Currently it serves as an exhibition centre and office complex. It is 234 metres (778 ft) tall. There are 3288 rooms on 42 floors, among which are cinemas, theatres, museums and a university. One of the main tourist attractions is a terrace on the 30th floor, at 114 metres, with a panoramic view of the city.
